Both Gene and Cassie are native Texans. Cassie was born in West Texas and then attended Baylor University. Gene grew up in Waco and attended the University of Texas. There he was an All-American and Academic All-American football player under Darrell Royal. He later played for the New York Jets during the Joe Namath era.
