Greg Pape, a member of the Park Cities Rotary Club, has been awarded the Rotary International Foundation Distinguished Service Award.
The DSA is an international award granted annually to a maximum of 50 Rotarians worldwide. Only one Rotarian may be selected from each of the 352 Districts in the world each year.
“We are so proud of Greg, as he is honored among an elite group of Rotarians who have exhibited exceptional service to The Rotary Foundation,” said Sheila Rice, president of Virginia Cook, Realtors®. “This is a true testament to the caliber of professional and volunteer that Greg is as he makes a positive difference in so many lives here at home and around the world.”
To qualify for the DSA award, the nominee must have demonstrated a broad range of service over an extended period of time with substantial activity in the past two years. Recipients must also have received the Rotary International Foundation Meritorious Service Award at least four years previously.
A member of the Park Cities Rotary Club for 33 years, Greg has also given 19 years of week by week service to the International Foundation. Inspired by the motto, Doing Good throughout the World, service missions include striving for the Global Eradication of Polio, providing clean water through Rotary Foundation Grants, and providing foundation contributions for Scholarship programs.
“It has been extremely rewarding to see how Rotary helps others both locally, nationally and internationally with a global reach of more than 1.2 million members in over 35,000 Rotary clubs, in 200 countries,” said Greg.
According to Greg, Rotary is right around the corner in achieving the global eradication of polio. “Rotary took the lead role in combating this disease in 1985 when there were over 1,000 victims per day,” he explained. “To date, Rotary International has provided many volunteers throughout the world to vaccinate children and has contributed over $ 1 billion dollars, which collectively has successfully narrowed the disease today to just one country, Nigeria.”
A Dallas resident since 1972, Greg has also maintained an impeccable record as a top producer in residential sales since 1979. Named a Best Realtor® for 13 consecutive years, his generous spirit and leadership skills have benefited other service projects including the I Have a Dream Program, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, and Scottish Rite Hospital’s fund raising efforts.
