As beautiful inside as she is outside, and possessing the voice of an angel...that would be our own Marilyn Hysell Riner of the Fort Worth office!
Marilyn can't remember a time in her life when she didn't sing, and now barely a day goes by that she doesn't use her amazing vocal talent and passion for performing to bless others.
"I have sung all my life, and it took me years to realize that everyone else did not sing," says Marilyn. “I am one of 12 children, so none of us ever thought we were all that special!"
Her colleagues at Virginia Cook, Realtors® certainly disagree, and so do the people who benefit from what Marilyn calls her "God-given" talent.
Growing up, Marilyn had very little formal training, but was privileged to perform all over the world while in college with a travelling singing group. Today, she is a member of the big band trio, Heart over Heels, and enjoys lifting spirits at area retirement homes including the Stayton Retirement Community, Trinity Terrace and Vantage Retirement.
Heart over Heels also performs for numerous military installments each year, and Marilyn is an active member of the Fort Worth Air Power Council.
"I was invited to the Council's SKY BALL several years ago and saw how this amazing event raises funds for the military," says Marilyn, who is the in the process of earning her own pilot's license. "I was later invited to join the Council."
Hosted in partnership with American Airlines, SKY BALL features a different theme for a different branch of the military each year. In 2015, SKY BALL raised over $2 million for military members and their families. This year's SKY BALL promises to be equally successful with Tim McGraw as the headline entertainer, along with Gary Senise.
Additionally, Marilyn emcees and performs at other community events including the Fort Worth Charities Annual Barbecue, hosted free of charge for the entire base of the Fort Worth Naval Air Station. She has sung the National Anthem for many Change of Command ceremonies at the NAS, at the Marine Ball, and at other local events such as the golf tournament hosted last month at the Tierra Grande Golf Course in Mansfield to raise money for military families.
She is also invited often to share her gift to help lighten the darkest hours at funerals and to add to the joy at special occasions like weddings. "There is a song in my mind and heart all of the time, even when I'm sleeping," Marilyn says.
And the gift doesn't stop with Marilyn. Turns out her two daughters are also gifted singers and musicians, and the family enjoys leading worship, entertaining, traveling and teaching together.
"My favorite subject these days is my new husband, Rob Riner," adds Marilyn, noting the couple portrayed the President and First Lady at the opening of the JFK Opera at the Bass Hall this spring!
As Marilyn pursues her passion as a performer, she never skips a beat when it comes to serving her real estate clients. In fact, this week she successfully closed two tricky transactions in one day.
"Volunteering and singing has been a great way to meet new people, especially those who are tied to the military," says Marilyn. "No matter what I am doing as a professional or a volunteer, it is important to always try to make another person's life better."
